SCANCOM

Supported Devices

The SCANCOM protocol module can communicate with Barton SCANCOM 1100 series devices. The specific devices supported are: 1130, 1131 and 1140 series scanners. Other devices that use the same protocol, or use protocol emulators, can also be supported.

Supported Features

The SCANCOM protocol module supports reading and writing of data items, time sync and history collection.

SCANCOM Messages

This protocol implementation of SCANCOM uses the ADEPT 4.0 application command header format that includes the ADEPT 6 header and Transaction Counter in the ADEPT 7 header. ADEPT 4 multi-frame supports have also been implemented for responses greater than 256 Bytes from the device, such as for EFM History polls. The max message frame size is limited to 256 Bytes. The data portion of a message can be up to 228 Bytes for a frame containing a full header and 241 Bytes for a frame not containing full header information in the case of a multi-frame response. This protocol supports the ADEPT 2 ADLC type 1 frame format that utilizes a 5 Byte header and 3 Byte trailer allowing DLC drop addressing up to 254 to be used.

Device Preamble

The device preamble message is designed to establish an ADLC link with the end device as well as "wake up" the port in case it may be powered down to save power. This message is formatted as an 8 Byte SNRM command message. The number of Signal to Noise Ratio Margin (SNRM) preamble attempts is configurable from 0 to 7.The protocol will always send at least one to establish an ADLC link with the device on each session.

Trusted User Mode

Trusted user mode allows access to the scanner device without sending a LOGI (Login message) command at the start of each session and a LOGO (Logout message) at the termination of each session. This has the advantage of reducing message traffic with the scanner device during a session. Please refer to the Scanner 1100 series documentation for implications regarding its use.
