ACM Device Naming Conventions
All device and port names in the system must be unique. Here are some naming tips:
- Name your devices descriptively.
- Refrain from using spaces and any special characters, aside from the underscore (_).
ACM supports spaces in device names. However, some client applications do not. ACM does not allow the use of a backslash character ‘\’ or a period ‘.’ as part of an object name.
- On large systems, consider using a Device number or Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) number for the device name.
Names and meter numbers are subject to change in large companies, and it is inconvenient to rename devices continually, so a system device number that will never change is an excellent idea.
