Primary and Secondary Port Switching
This document explains the sequence of events that occur with the following configuration:
- Connection Options: Switch to secondary on failure
- Auto Recover is enabled
- Secondary Attempt is not zero
To begin with, ACM will attempt to communicate using the settings on the "Primary Connection" tab. If this connection cannot be made, the following cycle begins:
- ACM will communicate with the settings on the "Secondary connection" tab and will count how many poll cycles occur on the secondary connection.Â
- Each poll cycle on the secondary connection, successful or failed, counts as an "attempt" and will be logged accordingly
- When the number of attempted poll cycles on the secondary connection is the same as the "Secondary Attempt" value, ACM will perform a test on the primary connection:
- If this test passes (meaning the connection can be made), ACM will switch back to the primary connection.
- If this test fails (meaning the connection cannot be made), ACM will reset the "attempt" count to 0 and the cycle will start over at #1
The following is a visual representation of the above:
Additional Information:
If the "Secondary Attempt" value is 0, ACM will test the primary connection after each poll on the secondary connection.
If "Auto Recover" is not checked, ACM will remain on the secondary connection.
